European Painting 1850 to 1930

Adrian Biddell Fine Art offers advice on buying and selling art either privately or through auction. Drawing on over three decades of experience at the top of the art market, Adrian has a wealth of knowledge of 19th century European, Impressionist and Modern art.

Adrian’s particular expertise is in the national schools and artistic communities active across Europe between 1850 and 1930. As head of Sotheby’s 19th Century European Paintings department from 1999 to 2015, he developed a programme of trail blazing specialist sales that promoted the depth and breadth of artists working in all corners of the Continent. From Scandinavia to Spain, Belgium to the Bosphorus, Adrian achieved an unprecedented number of world auction records and established Sotheby’s as market leader in the field.

He formed Adrian Biddell Fine Art Ltd in the spring of 2017, since when he has brokered a range of works direct to institutions and private collectors and overseen every aspect of selling works for clients either at auction or via dealers and galleries. These range from the work of Akseli Gallen-Kallela in Finland to Joaquín Sorolla in Spain, together with examples from other countries across Europe including France, Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands.
